The father of Jennifer Garner, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann, her mother taught at a local college. To follow in the tradition of her father, she obtained a degree in chemical engineering. Since she wanted to be an actress she went into New York. Chefs were employed at an eatery in New York as well as appearing in Broadway productions. Garner was a small part on "Felicity" (where it was that she first came into contact with Scott Foley).
